Tequilera La Gonzaleña

Tequilera La Gonzaleña is the producer of the Ultra-Premium Tequila Chinaco.

The house was founded in 1972 by Don Guillermo Gonzalez, grandson of Manuel Gonzalez, a Chinaco General and elected President of the Mexican Republic of 1880-1884

In 1983, La Tequilera Gonzaleña was the first Distillery to launch an Ultra-Premium Tequila made of 100% Agave, handcrafted, and packed in unique, artisan, mouth blown bottles.

When a Tequila of this quality became available outside Mexico for the first time, it took US drinkers by storm and demand outpaced production with other distillers quickly following the lead of Chinaco.

We are very proud to announce that Tequilaland and Tequilera La Gonzaleña entered into a close co-operation in the beginning of 2008. Tequilaland is the exclusive Importer in Europe and responsible for distribution in more than 27 European countries.

With this step Tequilaland, a German-Mexican specialist for 100% Agave Tequila, becomes one of the most important players in the European league of 100% Agave specialist.

To launch in Europe, Tequilaland offers the varieties Chinaco Blanco and Chinaco Reposado in the traditional mouth blown handcraft bottle.

Tequila Chinaco Añejo comes in the very high-quality replica bottle, which is in common use in the US in these days.

The production of Tequila Chinaco remains under strict limitation, in order to ensure highest quality and exclusivity. Visiting the distillery, it is notable from the first second on, here rules quality over quantity.

In the United States Tequila Chinaco is always mentioned in the same breath people talk about worlds best Tequilas.

Benchmark Tequila – Best Value / New York Times:

"Incredible, lovely, said Dale DeGroff, who found classic agave character. Frank J. Prial noted it complexity and called it a benchmark Tequila.

New York Times, August 2006:

“Aged Tequilas – comparable to fine brandies – also have their fans and make lovely after-dinnerdrinks. Seek out the rare Chinaco Anejo”

Best Buy ! Beverage Journal

“This handmade Tequila continues to amaze aficionados and neophytes alike, both for its richly elegant character and remarkably reasonable price. It is well aged, extremely flavourful and has an exceptionally long and relaxed finish.

The history of Tequilera La Gonzaleña began with a devastating hurricane.

Don Guillermo Gonzalez was agriculture minister of Tamaulipas in 1965. At this time, a hurricane destroyed a large part of his home state of Tamaulipas.

The blue agave plant survived the storm and Don Guillermo Gonzalez arranged a sale of the agave plants to the Tequila producers in Jalisco. At this time Jalisco was the only state, which allowed the production of Tequila.

Because of its sustained efforts and its good relations, Manuel Gonzalez fought thru new plantation regions outside of the State of Jalisco.

Since the early 70s the regions of Tamaulipas, Guanajuato, Michoacan and Nayarit were added and further one permitted to grown Blue Agave plants for Tequila production.

The way for the production of the 5-star Tequila Chinaco was free.
